This session is focused on deepening participant knowledge about the relationship between individual behaviors and organizational responsibility, and equipping participants with the skills and tools to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct within the beverage alcohol and hospitality industries.⁠
⁠
The RAINN training on Creating a Safer Community will cover the following topics:⁠
• Complexities of sexual misconduct, and how it impacts the beverage/alcohol and hospitality industries⁠
• Individual and organizational considerations for establishing healthy norms and boundaries within the industry⁠
• Strategies for bystander intervention⁠
• Applying fundamental principles of trauma-informed communication to support survivors⁠

A great turnout by local farmers, and elected officials. The summer tour highlights the diversity of Ontario Ag, including the grain farmers who supply grain to our distilleries! ⁠

TORONTO - JULY 24, 2024 – The Liquor Control Boa

TORONTO - JULY 24, 2024 – The Liquor Control Board of Ontario’s (LCBO) sudden decision in 2023 to penalize suppliers for non-compliance with contradictory pricing policies has led to an unavoidable legal challenge from the makers of familiar brands such as Crown Royal, Canadian Club, JP Wiser’s, Forty Creek, Bacardi rum and El Jimador Tequila. ⁠

The collective of spirits suppliers, which together represent almost 70% of the spirits products sold in Ontario, have filed a court application with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to declare a controversial LCBO pricing term invalid and unenforceable. Simultaneously, the suppliers have alerted the Competition Bureau of Canada that the LCBO’s enforcement of this pricing term, in their view, is an abuse of dominance with major anti-competitive implications for pricing and product choice impacting all Canadian consumers. ⁠

The industry is a predominantly large buyer of local grain for high-quality spirits produced in Canada by our members. ⁠

Last week, the World Spirits Alliance hosted their Annual Meeting in Geneva Switzerland. ⁠
⁠
The 3-day meeting allowed National trade associations and top global spirits companies to gather and discuss high-level priorities in responsibility, trade, and health to name a few. ⁠
⁠
A few special milestones were achieved, that should not go unnoticed: ⁠
- The WSA is now closer to the action and is now based in Geneva, from its former headquarters in Brussels. ⁠
- Three new members were confirmed to the WSA, strengthening global collaboration. Welcome Mast- Jägermeister SE, the Kentucky Distillers Association (KDA) and the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA)!⁠
- On July 10, WSA launched a groundbreaking study that highlights the enormous economic impact of the global spirits industry, revealing that globally, spirits powers the global economy with US$730 billion in GDP contribution. ⁠
A special thank you to the Ambassador Nadia Theodore and Deputy Permanent Representative Martin Moen for taking the time to meet with us to discuss the promotion, protection and prosperity of the spirits industry at the Permanent Mission of Canada.⁠

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture hosted their annual Queen’s Park Lobby Day Reception yesterday. While it was a full day of meetings for all OFA delegates, they ended the day with delicious food and Canadian whisky cocktails! ⁠

A special thank you to the Honourable Lisa Thompson for her remarks, the many MPPs that were in attendance for their time and continued advocacy towards the ag and spirits sector.

This was also a great opportunity to share @davindek latest edition of “Canadian Whisky” to Canadian whisky lovers! This book dives into the rich history of Canadian whisky, distilling, flavour profiles and more!
