Spirits Canada official response to 2024 Finance Canada Pre-Budget Submission

Spirits Canada remains concerned that, as of April 1st, Canadians will have to pay a 4.7% additional tax on spirits, wine, and beer, far beyond current government targets for inflation.

Accordingly, Spirits Canada has submitted an official response to the pre-budget consultations of Finance Canada (available in EN and FR below) which proposes a permanent solution to the volatile and unpredictable pattern of the current alcohol excise duties framework.

Specifically, we are recommending that, as of Budget 2024 and onwards, the federal government permanently set the alcohol excise duties at a maximum rate of 2%.
